Common mistakes

Decimal feet are not feet and inches

5.90 feet does not mean 5 feet 9 inches. Multiply the decimal remainder by 12: 0.90 foot is 10.8 inches.

Do not round before finding the inches

Keep the full decimal-feet result, separate the whole feet, then convert the remaining fraction to inches before rounding.

Useful for: Metric lengths and human heights expressed in feet.
